Unbankable deliveries

Got a phone call from a bank today.

Me:  Hello.
B:  Hi, may I speak with Cherie De Castro?
Me:  This is she.
B:  Ma'am, this is (name) from (Very Prominent Bank).  You have  a problem with your account, and ....
Me:  A problem with my account?  What happened?
B: (chuckles) Well, we are about to send you a .... for .... You don't have to commit right now.  Your account shows you have an excellent record...
Me:  Wait a minute.  First of all, you just said that my account shows I have an excellent record, which contradicts your introduction to me.  (I could hear the poor girl sounding embarrassed on the other end of the line.)  Second of all, I have already told somebody from (Very Prominent Bank) that I would contact you if ever I became interested.  And I am not.  Thank you for calling.

And I put the phone down.

Really.

And that's just one of those.  Try this.  It happened about a few months ago.  Also from them.

B: Hello, is Aristotle De Castro there?
A:  This is Aristotle.
B:  My name is (name) from (Very Prominent Bank).  Do you speak English?
A:  Aren't we talking already?

And Aris continued to entertain.  But reported the rudeness to someone higher up.

Now, I don't know if it's just me, but I think people-oriented jobs require a lot more refinement from the employees, especially so if the company they're working for has a reputation to protect.  Whatever their reasons, the first scenario showed perfect incompetence, and the second one outright idiocy based, we suppose, on records of a not-so-English-sounding last name.

How frustrating! I always ask to be put on the "no call list" and I wait on the line while they do it. UGH!! I feel for you miss Cherie!

This is one of those things I detest. I have caused trouble for some of them. They are looking for more money and are ignoring our requests.

Very well said! We've gotten so many idiotic/rude telephone calls that we let voice mail screen the calls from numbers we don't know.

Amen! I totally agree. I don't even answer my phone anymore unless I recognize the number on our caller ID. I don't want to waste my time and get annoyed.

How about if they call you on your cellphone and chop your minutes away! Hahaha! I never really answer a 1-800-number... unless I just want to amuse myself... or if I'm lonely... just the same, I should be in a very good mood to do that... =)

hihi, i've learned to navigate through these calls, Icy.~~~yup, new look for the next hundred!^_^

you said it, sir whitemist! whew!

i bet you have, sir george!

aren't they something, ms. annie?

ah, you got that one right, rainfield!

hmp, mga patalunon kaya, sol. aren't we NOT supposed to say anything if we can't say anything nice at all?

yup, they sure got me this time - only because my mother calls and it registers as UNKNOWN, and she doesn't leave any messages. i've asked her time and again to leave a message and she won't. and these bank callers have become quite adept at being UNKNOWN, and not leaving messages, too.

oh, that's a good one, jie! good thing i always keep my celfone off! hahahah!!

I could relate to this. Sometimes our customer service people are answering from a different country (call center).

cherie said...

that's right! i forgot to mention that one, ate ebie. my caller was obviously from here, but aris' was from another country.

If I don't know the number I don't answer the phone as most of the time it's some sales call.

Good post, gives us all something to think about regarding those nuisance calls and what to day.

Could it be just a scam? Instead of the real bank? :o

Ugh Cherie... I despise those kind of phone calls. We are on the NO CALL list --but we still get them. Everytime I get one, I say "Please take us off of your calling list." Most of the time that works---so try it the next time someone like that calls.

Hugs,
Betsy

I hate these kind of phone calls. Probabaly why I leave the ansaphone on all day. The other ones that get me are those automated taped messages. I'd love to know who actually lisens to those. I mean, I put the phone down as soon as I realise that there is no one there but a recorded voice!

It's nothing compared to being rudely served over the counter Cherie.

17 years ago, when my little ones and I came back from our brief holiday I went to one of the local banks in our area (we call the bush(
to have my currency changed to Aussie money.

Shockingly, I was told by the bank personnel that they couldn't change my money because I was not their customer.

Not so much that they would not change my money, or that they had such and such stupid policies; I pointed out to them that "it's your service that counts, the way you treated or approached me."

When I was up on the north and requested for my australian dollar changed to their money, the bank over there never ever did require from me to be their member first before I could make avail of their service.

They took my money without question, they didn't even ask for my passport.

They gave me the due exchange rate and I thanked them cheerfully. Period.

Still fuming because I had no money to buy food for my little children, I wasted my time and money to call the Head Office here in Sydney and complained How rude your employees are! Not only Rude but Ignorant as well.

Next year following, one Bank started to operate a new Policy fine tuning their Customer Service and it was not surprising they won the Bank of the Year Award.

I never ever go back to that rude bank ever again. And during the Wall Street clean up when Economy went downhill, they were the first to be hit BIG TIME! There you go!
