I swear

Earlier today, Aris was running a fever, and had all the classic symptoms of a cold. That was all it had to take to set the stage.

I had done everything else from the medicines, the massage, the fixing and changing of the sheets. Even the tissues, small trash can just for him, the alcohol for his hands. And the remote. Everything except for one. He wanted to cuddle. I relented after he'd begged about three times. Locked in that firehot hold, I braced myself for the expected monologue. "You don't want to come here because you think I have swine flu? Well, at least if I die, this is the last thing you'll remember." I told him to can it. Did he? Oh no. "And then, when I die, you're free to marry again. You know." (Will you stop?) "Is it time for my medicine yet? I've probably overdosed myself, maybe I will really die soon." (Arrrghh! Eeeee! All this drama, I don't want to hear another word of it any more.)

Of course he was teasing me, but he was so corny and I finally managed to bite his arm and run for my life.

This house is full of it. Even the three year-old has the bug. When denied something he really likes at the moment, he goes "Mom, look at me. I'm sad." Eh?

And how so the first born? Last night, he showed me the letters he made for Santa. (Don't ask.) He wrote 4 letters, asking for 4 different items for each of us. I said, "Well, remove the apostrophe in like's." That was it. He threw into a fit because he said he used an inkpen, and erasing was hard. I said to rewrite, there was plenty of paper. Did he? No. He went to the room and wrote this:

and gave it to me. I said, "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings Matthew but I just want you to write well. What would Santa say?" It didn't work. He came back out with this:
Man above! What's with the testosterone level in this house? So I said, "Come here, let's talk." He came out and I gave him a lecture on how a seven-year-old who is in the advanced classes should be careful with his letters. I said, a smart boy listens to his mom and does not get frustrated so quickly. Blah-blah-blah. I guess that did it. Eventually, he got 3 letters done. Except for one. He said, "Mom, what does Dad want for Christmas?" The Dad, of course, heard, and was on cue, "If I live to see Christmas, son."

Really. Only in this family. In the end, he got his letters sealed. I don't know what he asked the bearded man to give his dad. I hope the boy had sense enough to ask him for FORTITUDE for his mother to bear with more of this onslaught in the coming years.

Amazing! It would be interesting to know what he asked for :)

All I can say is it's a good thing we don't have to rely on the male species to procreate or the human race would have died out decades ago. LOL......

What your son wrote is SO cute.

Cherie,
They are good! I'll give them that :) And yes curiosity has me too, I do wonder what he asked for.
Prayers! Hope everyone is better soon.

This reminded my of the time my son was little. I had sent him to his room for a time out and he wrote me this note.
Dear Mommy
I hate you.
Love David

Cherie, I am in hysterics - forgive me - after reading this. I raised three sons alone and I did live through it. I had so many precious episodes such as yours, I still remember the time, when he was 5, that Shawn came home from Montesori, truly livid, and not speaking to me. I kept trying to find out what was wrong. Finally, in the most scathing voice, he looked at me and said, "Well, Mom, it might be a penis to you ( nurse that I am, I tried to use the correct terminology for body parts ) - but at Montesori, it's a weiner!"

This was so funny Cherie! Your son is very bright for only seven years old, and thinking ahead to already have his Christmas list written and mailed to Santa Claus.

I enjoyed reading your post! It's so funny. Even so I do hope that your husband is better again. Your son's letter is also very funny. Children can write funny things. One of the daughters, who was seven then, wrote a note, which she stuck on her bedroom door. It said : Elsie may not come into my room, that bitch!
The children on the photo are my three Australian grandchildren. The two eldest have an Aboriginal father.

Now I understand why women are not allowed to be sick! :-)

hi..that's cute of him..

It sounds like the statement "All males are babies when they are sick" holds true in your house, I am sorry. Maybe If I was married I would fall prey to the temptation, but I doubt it. Hope all get well fast and you don't get it.

Unknown said...

Well, I do hope everyone feels better, Mom included. lol, and wonder what did he ask for? They are precious.

Hi Cherie, What a cute post. OH--how I remember those days, many years ago, when I was raising THREE sons.

Your 7 yr. old is VERY smart... I love his responses to the situation... CUTE!

My son writes to Santa too, every christmas without fail! I'm sure he'll give all your families wishes because you have been Good! :)

Men must be the same the world over...awful patients. I'm with your little boy. He had made a big effort to write letters and he gets criticised for a little mistake, of course it would hurt his feelings.Always compliment his effort first and then suggest he could make it even better by fixing the little mistake. Ooops now I may have hurt your feelings. I don't mean to offend but I mean to be helpful. (Once a teacher always a teacher)

hi Che! just want you to know i still exist he he he...and i love your family!

by the way, i remember a post here where Aris asked about why women place a towel on their head after taking a shower....my 7 year old son asked me the very same thing days ago he he he....

and my dad just called me up saying he wants to die already and he means as soon as possible...i couldn't stop the urge to leave a comment having read Aris' drama...oh well life...and the men around us...whom we love dearly mmmm unfortunately he he he...i am not fine, because my dad isn't but i am struggling to find beauty in everything that's dull now...because life, is after all the twin of death....aaahhhhh tell Matt i'd send the bearded man a message telling him to please grant his wishes....

hahaha....

smart or not smart, for any simple thing, just show appreciation to your little one, then calmly and diplomatically tell him of the mistake.

I enjoy the rapport you have with your boys. probably because I don't have a son.

hehehehe akay grabe tampuririt ni agum u? pero bilib ako sa son mo ha.... brave and honest, courageous to say what he feels and ready to face the consequence of his action.... credits be to the parents, special mention to the mother!

Hello Manay,

My, my, your tykes are really something--and Aris, too--very dramatic.Ha!Ha! They remind me of kids I used to know about 3 to 4 decades ago. I'm sure you know them too! I'd like to share a tip from an article I read recently on how to correct kids without hurting their feelings--hehe. All you have to do is, label the kid as a Big Sport--that way, he takes the correction as a complement! Try that on Matt and Aj, and let's see what happens ok? I'm looking forward to your update! Hugs and Kisses!!!
